Think tank

Last month we presented the first edition of our new (and yet to be) regular event - the Think tank.

It was a brainstorm meeting between the students and the Dean, who joined forces to tackle 4 major issues at our faculty :

  1. Study success measures
  2. Separation of the English and Dutch tracks
  3. Incoming and outgoing exchange students
  4. Integration of international students in Amsterdam

More than 30 people attended the meeting and discussed  possible future changes concerning these topics. There was a great deal of useful suggestions which will definitely facilitate the improvements of our faculty. The Board and administration requested the input, and we submitted it to them shortly after the Think tank.

By the time your are reading this, we have already had a formal meeting with the Board, the education directors, teachers’ union and other important decision-responsible people from the FEB to give them the ideas they asked for. We discussed the outcome and ideas of the Think tank and agreed on future actions that need to be taken to implement the students’ suggestions. We will keep you posted!

To put it straight, the Think tank proved to be a great, results-generating idea. Students and administration working together for a better faculty appears to be an optimal way of improving quality of education and the atmosphere at the FEB. We as a Student Council believe that the close connection between the ones studying and the ones guiding the course of the faculty needs to be preserved and further developed and this is why we are planning on making the Think tank a regular event.  Join us next time and maybe you will be the one deciding the future of the FEB!

Student council elections

Dear UvA student,

The elections for the 2013-2014 Student Councils are about to begin.

The Student Service Point features all the information you need on student participation at the University of Amsterdam (UvA):

http://studentenserviceplein.uva.nl/en/student-council-elections

The Central Student Council and Faculty Student Councils are set to take up their duties in September. The new council members will be elected this spring. The Electoral Register (which specifies who is entitled to vote in the upcoming elections) was compiled last week. Check your personal details in the Electoral Register to find out whether you are also entitled to vote:

http://www.stem.uva.nl/Default.asp?taal=eng

If your name is featured in this register, you are entitled to vote.

You can also announce your candidacy for one of the Councils.

In order to do so, you must first become a member of one of the participating parties. Alternatively, you can take part as an independent candidate. New candidacies must be announced in the week from 2 through 9 April. For the timeline for the 2013 Student Council elections, see:

http://studentenserviceplein.uva.nl/en/student-council-elections

The election campaign will be followed by the voting period. Voting will take place from 13 through 17 May, and will be conducted digitally. You will receive a personalised, digital invitation to vote, stating which councils you are entitled to vote for. All major UvA locations also feature voting computers that will direct you to the voting application.

Docent van het Jaar

Who is the best lecturer of the whole UvA?

Docent van het jaar (“lecturer of the year) is a campaign organized every year by all student councils of the UvA.  It aims to reward teachers that put effort in their lectures and make them worth going for.

Do you have a teacher that always motivates you to come to lectures, brings up interesting topics and debates and makes you feel you learned a great deal from this course? Then nominate her/ him:

http://studentenserviceplein.uva.nl/en/lecturer-of-the-year/lecturer-of-the-year.html

From every faculty, study associations will make a short list of the teachers that were nominated. One of them will then be chosen and promoted by the study association. A jury (of students from different faculties) will decide between a shortlist of teachers (one from each faculty).

This is a great opportunity to reward teachers not for their academic capabilities only, but for their teaching skills! The teacher chosen will receive a great prize.

Support good teachers of the FEB and nominate YOUR best teacher of 2012!!!

If you have more questions concerning the process you can of course contact us or check the website.
