OER

Dear students,

We hope you made it safe and sound through the exam period and that you are ready to tackle the new block! The Student Council is already working at its next big topic. We received the draft for the upcoming year’s Onderwijs en Examen Regelingen (OER) and will analyse the document thoroughly to make sure that students’ interests are represented in this crucial rule work. Regarding this we will also meet up with the Dean within the next few weeks and keep you up to date whatever is happening.

Study Success OV Meeting

Dear Students,

Last Monday we met with the new interim dean of our faculty Eric Fisher and presented him with the evaluation of our research regarding how to increase the percentage of students passing their exams. We had quite a controversial talk since from the teacher side the main suggestion is to cut on re-sits. We countered this and finally reached the conclusion that overall more bonus systems and partial grades have to be implemented (especially in hard courses such as Statistics and Mathematics).

In our archive you may find the evaluation of our research under “Other”. This paper will also be handled as part of a new faculty working group that will come up with a complete new course structure to guarantee that students are given the right chances to study successfuly.

Thanks again to all who answered our questionnaire! We will keep you updated about upcoming topics and also keep working on study success!

Study Success

Dear students,

The FEB Student Council is working right now on ways to increase the study success of students. One option is to integrate more bonus systems or assignments and presentations that form part of your grade. We would like to know if you think that would be a good approach and hear about your suggestions.

Please help us by filling in the following questionnaire:

Best wishes,

Your FEB Student Council

Beste studenten,

Wij willen graag weten hoe jij hier over denkt!

Happy New Year!

Dear students,happy_new_year_fireworks

The FEB Student Council hopes that you had a great start in your new year 2010 and enjoyed your vacations! We want to take this chance and tell you a little about what we worked on during the last year and what our new-years resolutions are:

What we achieved

Last year, we worked on several topics that affect you directly:

1.) Sorbon

Overpriced food at Sorbon’s restaurants? In the future no more of that! Together with faculty and university officials we applied some pressure before Sorbon’s contract would be extended. All prices will be lowered, some of them by up to 40 % from the 1st of January 2010 on!

2.) Library / Study Places

Cutting down opening hours of the library? The Student Council prevented that. Even more, we achieved that the library will be open until 20:00 instead of 18:00 from Monday till Thursday.

3.) Course Evaluation

What happens to all these filled in questionnaires after every exam? The Student Council made sure that the results will be published on Blackboard in the future. We guarantee transparency!

What we will go for

The faculty is facing a lot of changes. The whole system of 7 weeks lectures, 1 week study and then exams will be reorganized. We already made sure that with the new system the study week will be kept. Moreover, we guarantee you that any changes made to the system will be in the interest of the students. Do you want to give input into this discussion? Do not hesitate to contact us!

Apart from that, we need to achieve true internationalisation. This takes two shapes:

1. We want the faculty to increase its efforts offering the right information for students that consider going abroad. They have to be guided closely and assisted accordingly.

2. We want to guarantee that those international students joining our faculty have the opportunity to contribute something to our community. Together with the student associations we will realize projects where Dutch and international students jointly work together.

Now you have seen what our plans are for 2010. We would be glad to hear your opinion on these topics and also suggestions for further issues that have to be addressed at our faculty. Together we can bring real changes to our faculty!

Yours,

The FEB Student Council 2009/2010

On our new homepage we will constantly keep you informed about any topics we are working on.
