On Exchange in Europe via Erasmus in 2012-2013

As a student of the FEB you can study a period abroad at one of UvA’s partner universities in Europe via the Erasmus programme. If you would like to do so in 2012-2013, it is important to start your orientation, because the preparations might take some time and the application deadline for studying abroad during the academic year 2012-2013 is approaching: March 1, 2012.

If you want to study abroad, it is best to choose a minor track and go on an exchange in the semester that is reserved for that purpose in the third year. You then can still graduate within 3 years for your Bachelor. You can study abroad as a Master student as well. This however, will take you an extra semester to graduate, plus you will have to ask permission from the Board of Examiners by sending them your study program with your planned study abroad. For the master a maximum of 15 EC of extra credits is allowed.

To be eligible for an exchange in Europe you will have to have obtained at least 90 EC at the moment of your planned departure.

FSR Information Lunch

Ambitious? Up for a challenge? Dissatisfied with the organization within the FEB or UvA? Willing to take an active position in changing education within the UvA or FEB? A role within the Student council could be something for you!

On Thursday, January 19, from 12.30 to 13.30 the Faculty Student Council (FSR) organizes an information lunch.

This lunch will be offered to you in room H0.03 (the symposium room in Agora).

Are you interested in a (part-time) board year within the FSR or CSR, please be welcome to come and find out more! During this lunch, the current FSR FEB and student parties will be present to answer any questions you might have.

Summary: Info session for MSc Operations Research

Last Thursday, the information meeting that the Faculty Student Council (FSR) requested together with students about ORM took place. Here’s a short summary:

Due to the reorganisation of the FEB, the research group ORM will be abolished as of April 1st 2012. With this in mind the Faculty proposed to also abolish the MSc ORM. Currently, this decision is stuck on the level of the Central, UvA board because the Joint Council (the Central Student and Works Council) overruled the Rector’s (head of the University) decision to abolish the MSc program. Now the UvA board has to decide to: either continue the program or to begin a legal procedure that would, in the end, most likely would lead to abolishing the MSc ORM according to the Faculty.

The FSR is doing all it can to make sure that it will be known as soon as possible what will happen to the MSc ORM. Below, there are some bullet points that could clarify a bit:

The Faculty has the obligation to make sure that the program they provide is up to the current standards in any situation and they are committed to doing so.

The BSc program will stay as it is.

The MSc program’s future is uncertain.

This year (2011/2012) it will stay as it is and there are plans to have an extra round of resits before September 1st 2012.
For the year 2012/2013, currently the registration is open. This would mean that for that year the MSc program also has to be provided; how that is done, for instance by external staff or in collaboration with the VU University, is up to the FEB. Aside the first normal year of the MSc program, students will always get one year extra to finish their MSc. Again, this might either be by external staff or by collaborating with the VU University.

Information session: MSc Operations Research

FSR is looking for an Assistant

The Faculty Student Council Economics and Business is looking for a council assistant.

Due to circumstances the FSR now has 7 instead of 8 council members, therefore we are looking for a council assistant.

A council assistant works as a regular council member on the cases in the council but has no voting right in the meetings, since he/she is not elected. You are expected to invest 8 hours a week and will receive a compensation.
