Student of the Year Award 2012

Facilities

To work on Facilities, the following workgroups have been assigned:

———-

1. Reconstructions and Catering

Team: Victoria Ous (chairing), Marije Duijn

a) Reconstruction:

At the beginning of 2011, UvA started a long-term reconstruction of REC complex.Specifically buildings REC A, B, C and H will be renovated. Because of closing thesebuildings, capacity problems might occur therefore the faculty and university needto offer students equal alternatives. The Council will try to monitor if students havesufficient facilities close by at all times and speak out if, it’s needed. As building E is located near the reconstruction area, so that FSR has to supervise thelevel of noise which should be of acceptable proportions and doesn’t interrupt studentswhile studying. In 2016 the new Learning Centre in REC H will be finished. Al though this still takesa while, the design will be made in 2011/2012. The Central Student Council and theFaculty Student Councils can have a say in this design.

b) Catering

In January 2012 the new caterer will be implemented in the REC. This transitioncould create problems in the catering service. The Council needs to make sure thatstudents are not affected by this and have a proper meal all the time. By staying inclose contact with the account manager from the UvA and the new caterer, problemsregarding the quality and supply of the food can be communicated and solved asefficiently as possible.

2. Internships and Going Abroad

Team: Victoria Ous (chairing), Marko Virkebau

Within the study curriculum it is possible to do an exchange program or an internship. The Faculty should inform students about the possibilities. The FSR will closelywatch if the FEB provides enough office hours for internship and exchangepossibilities, handles questions by the students in a reasonable amount of time andwill stimulate the students to undertake these kinds of activities.

3. Integration

Team: Victoria Ous (chairing), Birk Jonker

For students in the international program it is quite difficult to integrate into the Dutchenvironment, both socially and professionally. One of the causes of this is the lackof proficiency in Dutch: socially it is harder to interact and professionally it is moredifficult to obtain the necessary information or to be recruited. Therefore, the Facultyshould provide these students with the possibility to learn the Dutch language. Theefforts of last-year’s FSR will be continued in advising the Dean and working withassociations in order to give this opportunity to the students.
