Hey Fellow Students,

I’m Otto Kruse 3rd year Student of Economics and Business at the FEB. For over a year I’m actively representing students in the FSR. During this time we had some smaller and bigger successes (i.E. Longer opening hours of the Study Rooms, Coffee price reduction at Sorbon , keeping the study week and 2nd re-sit).
For the coming period I want to initiate emphatically more Study Places for Workgroups, more contact hours for students with advisors such as Student Counselors or the Internship Office, and last but not least more internationalization. Finally, my wishful but not unrealistic thinking is to provide a good representation for both Dutch and international students, and to use my position in an effective way.

I’m Corneel den Hartogh, 2nd year Student of Economics and Business at the FEB. I’ll represent the FSR FEB in the Central Student Council.  For a few years, the university is trying to make more things obligatory instead of trying to make education and the necessary support better. They consider cutting down on study places and re-sits instead of thinking about improving the quality of the lectures or videotaping them (so you can watch them later again). At the same time, the financial situation at the FEB is highly problematic. This is a result of the growing student numbers, while the faculty receives the financial benefits of these students a few years later. Therefore, I will do my best at central level to invest some of its reserves to keep the education on an academic level.

Dear fellow students,

I am a Msc. student Business Economics, specialization Finance. Last year I followed the Pre-Master program Business Economics, that’s why I am a second year UvA student. The bureaucracy is on the UvA is one of my main reasons for going into the FSR. Why doesn’t a first year student get the propedeuse automatically after finishing his/her first year? Why does it still takes more than 15 days before an exam gets graded? Etc. etc.
I and my fellow FSR-FEB members are willing to help you, but we only can help you if you tell us what is on your mind! So email your ideas and complaints or make use of the possibility to join our weekly meetings!

Dear fellow students,

Last year I started my studies of Economics and Business in Amsterdam. We are enjoying a good education at the UvA and are living in a great international city. However, this international character should also be represented in the way Dutch and international students are interacting with each other at our university. Right now, it is difficult for many internationals to actively participate in the UvA community and make their voice be heard. Ignoring this issue, means ignoring international students who want to enrich the student community at our university. As a member of the student council, I will create opportunities for international students to contribute to our community.

Dear student,

My name is Vincent Rietvink and I am a third-year Economics student. I would like to emphasize all the wonderful opportunities that our faculty has in offer for you! But sometimes, the faculty fails in getting the student connected to all the possibilities it offers. I want to focus on improving the study environment, so that the ambitions of the student can find its way much easier. Think about more inspiring classes, a closer contact between teacher and student, better study spots, more information about the programs and the use of innovative software (video-taped lectures).  But, we should also be aware of all the rights that we enjoy, and the FSR will make sure you keep them! We at the FEB are studying in a very actual and exciting field, so it’s important that the faculty broadens your horizon!

Dear Students,

My name is Julien Reincke and I’m in the final year of my bachelor Econometrics. My main subjects in the Faculty Student Council are Facilities and Quality Care. Facilities are off course important to offer you, the student, a good environment to study and develop yourself. Besides that Quality Care is important to ensure the quality of the education at the FEB and to improve the succesrates at the faculty. For this and other matters we need your input! So please contact us when you have any complaints or ideas you want to share with us.

Dear fellow students,

My name is Michiel Boere and I am studying Economics. The beautiful thing in the Netherlands is that everyone deserves and gets a chance. In my opinion the university has to be student-oriented and do everything to offer its students exactly these chances. In times of economic crisis the government has to invest in knowledge in a responsible way. The setting at the university has to be fine with a close contact between professors and students. We, from the Students Council, are the voice of the students. And we will work in these very rights of the students in bring them to the officials!

Dear fellow student!

My name is Helene Damm and I am in the second year of my studies ‘Economics and Business’. Although I enjoy studying at the UvA and especially its multicultural environment, I see possibilities of improvement in the quality of our study landscape. I am certain that you too have encountered some problems disturbing your studies at the UvA. And no matter how minor they are –  as long as you do not address somebody who can actually change something about it, they will continue to annoy you and other students. This is my motivation to work in the FSR and I ask you to support us by giving your input and tell us what bothers you at the UvA –  only in that way, change is made possible!

Dear fellow students,

My name is Kevin van den Berg and I’m finishing my Master in Business Studies at the moment now. I’ve been involved with the student council for two years now so I have been around for a while. After being the complaint student for a year I became the secretary. This means I’m officially not part of the council but I’m there to assist them when needed. With this great team of ambitious and motivated people I think we can really improve the quality of education at our faculty!
