Update on Roeterseiland Renovation

Dear students,
A lot of changes have occurred in the past couple of weeks, especially and most importantly with respect to the Roeterseiland renovation. As most of you might have noticed or experienced,  REC H and REC E – the home of economics and business students and a cradle for many others who study, eat and socialize here – are shutting down. Renovation work will continue through the end of the summer of 2014 and it has started completely with H and partly with E (the towers), the E-hall will be the last one to be modified.

While REC H has already shut down at the end of the 2nd block, the study facilities will not be available any longer, namely the library, the silent room and the computer rooms will be dispatched for rehabilitation. Neither will be Agora (the cafeteria) and Krater (the café).
The University is working hard towards finding alternatives and solutions for the big number of students in need of these facilities. This is what they have come up with so far:

Provisional library and other study facilities:  starting with January 6th, the overview on the available study places will be updated weekly.

REC N: from Wednesday January 8th, 140 study places (70 computers with Stata, Eviews and acces to data stream) – Open from Monday to Friday 08.45 – 18.00 hours.

Study room B.009 on the UB Singel’s ground floor: 54 places during regular hours from January 13 onwards

All regular study centers, for opening hours check:

Also check the mobile website for where computers are available: , the computers in Bushuis have Stata and Eviews, all UvA computers have SPSS

The Pierson Révész library open shelf collection:

REC P building, from 15 January onwards:  Monday – Friday 10.00 – 17.00 hours.

Service counter:

REC N building, from January 8 onwards: Monday – Friday 10.00 – 17.00 hours

As mentioned before, Agora and Krater will be closed until the end of the summer of 2014.

Provisional eating facilities will be provided as follows:

Catering corners: 1st floor of building J/K and ground floor or building P – fruits, snacks, soups, cold and hot drinks; for hot meals, please consider the Atrium or Theo Thijsenhuis (HvA Campus); The opening hours are: Building J/K: 08:30 to 15:30 (Monday through Friday) Building P: 10:00 to 14:00 (Monday through Friday)

CREA Café: they have made an agreement with Eurest catering services for this period, maintaining however their own selection of products; CREA Café will be open as follows: 10:00 to 13:00 (Monday through Saturday) 11:00 to 19:00 (Sunday)

Mobile catering services: during the renovation period, one or more food trucks will be stationed around CREA Café with menu items varying according to the schedule, weather and such factors. These will be open daily until 16:00.

Please refer to the UvA website for exact dates and current products!!

As for activities in REC E, please check out your schedule/timetable periodically, as well as your e-mail inbox for official updates!  More announcements regarding the opening hours and availability of facilities will be made soon!
